ICANN, the international organization overseeing the naming space on the Internet, just launched a new website to prepare applicants for the next round of gTLDs applications.
ICANN is set to publish a new version of the Applicant’s Guidebook in May 2025, and applications for gTLDs at ICANN are expected to open in April 2026.
Back in 2012, companies applied for the delegation of their .brand. These companies were pioneers. The profiles of the new registries vary, from those who secured their .brand but planned no use of it, to those applying for an extension for defensive purposes, to those entirely switching to a .brand universe.
They do however have in common the knowledge that the naming of the Internet is undergoing a profound revolution, and that they need to be ready when the time comes.
In 2026, brand owners will have another possibility of securing their brands and entire online environment under a .brand extension which will serve as a flag to identify all of their online services.
IP Twins helps brand owners navigate through the maze of requirements and formalities for the delegation of your own .brand top-level domain, from the feasibility study and project definition, to the accreditation and use of your very own .brand domain.
