UDRP now applicable to .ga domains!

In just a few months, the Gabonese domains underwent major changes. While they used to be operated by Freenom, the Gabonese authorities took over full management of .ga domains in June.

And now, the WIPO just announced that they will provide a dispute service for .ga domains under the UDRP as from August 1st 2023 !

.ga domains are amongst the most cybersquatted domains, in particular due to Freenom’s free domain policy, and the fact that no dispute mechanism was available.

The availability of the UDRP procedure to .ga domains is a huge step in better protecting trademark rights in Africa.
With the Malian authorities also reclaiming the management of the .ml domains from Freenom since July 19th, Freenom’s control over the most cybersquatted TLDs is on the verge of collapsing.

This is amazing news for trademark holders and their representatives !
