ICANN76 Community Forum held in Cancún, Mexico, a few days ago, set a new milestone in the availability of new gTLDs and the generalization of .brand top-level domains. The Board of Directors adopted recommendations to start the implementation process of the next round of new generic top-level domains.
In details, the ICANN Board directed the organization to deliver a comprehensive implementation plan by 1 August 2023, to open the next round of gTLDs at a later stage.
It is thought that brands will take this opportunity to apply largely to the management of their own TLD. With the first round held 10 years ago, companies and stakeholders now have the necessary feedback to think their position in the next round of gTLDs, and start internal processes to apply to a .brand top-level domain.
