Donuts is launching the .CONTACT on September 29, 2020. The sunrise period will run until November 28, 2020. This new gTLD is essential for two reasons.
First, from a practical point of view, the .CONTACT can be of some use for companies’ communication, particularly for those that deploy on network-type models (among others: licensing, selective distribution, or franchising). Thus, the .CONTACT can be used to present the directory of trusted partners.
Second, new gTLDs present new opportunities for fraudsters (see, e.g., iptwins.com, September 4, 2020). In this regard, the risks associated with the .CONTACT gTLD must be taken with the utmost seriousness. Indeed, a domain name such as my company.contact or brand.contact would generate an absolute risk of confusion. In other words, the .CONTACT is an open door for phishing.
These reasons lead us to strongly recommend that companies acquire their .CONTACT domain names as of the sunrise period.
